Three years ago I decided to self publish a small comic-book/art-collection that was to tell a the story of creation, god, religion and the human interpretation of life, but purely visual and through self exploration.
The way I created these pieces was similar to how I was putting together a mini-zine at the time called Pleasure. It was done in black and white photocopy paper and I gave them out for free to friends and to whoever was around. The major influence for this project were those tiny comics and instructional books on "how to get to heaven" from various religions that were passed around while on subways in NY. I used a lot of my own drawings, some clipping of the pamphlets I used to collect and some artwork I tried to incorporate into the story. Working in an office with not a lot of actual "work" to do was great for xeroxing and materials.
In the end it was really hard to get the right copies and color as I would have wanted to see it with the minimum amount of funds I kept around back then. Even later when I tried to produce a larger amount of copies the price was not something I could work around.
Looking back at the book, my biggest regret is that not that many people got to see it so here it is. I am re-working the cover since it was the only piece that I did not make by hand and my photoshop skills at the time were poor at best. Hopefully this project will see a new light soon. I'm posting them here as they appeared in the book and in the intended order. I hope you enjoy it.
